Linney was born to a single, unmarried mother who worked as a nurse. Her interest in the theatre during holidays with her famous father. Her studies in acting were at Brown University, and later at Juilliard School. After graduating at Brown University, she made her Broadway debut shortly thereafter. After two years of this, her first feature film hit the market, and following year, her debut on television. She has been featured on a number of stages, films and television productions since then.
